Granma to Increase its Protection and Prevention against Fires

BAYAMO, Cuba, May 8 (ACN) The eastern province of Granma inaugurated on Tuesday in the city of Bayamo an action program to greet the 52th edition of the National Week for the Protection against fires, with positive results in the reduction of forest fires so far this year.

The opening activity was held in the Juan Vitalio Acuna Polytechnic Center where students, professors and neighbors of the community learned on the objectives and importance of the event and watched a demonstration exercise on technical abilities executed by the members of the Red Cross and Firefighters from Bayamo.

Students Claudia Guzman, 9 years old and Sebastian Garcia 7, were the winners of a contest called "If I were a firefighter" while the Juan Vitalio Acuna Center obtained a recognition for their outstanding preventive and protection work of its resources.

Firefighter, First Lte. Yusel Pantoja pointed out that municipal activities will be held on Saturday and on the 14th to the 20 th of May, provincial actions will be held coinciding with the 52 nd National Week for the Protection against Fires in the country.

He highlighted that the activities' objective is to contribute in increasing culture and perception of the risks among the population and in particular in the new generations and requested them to support the workers, homemakers and members of society in general.

In statements to ACN, Pantoja pointed out that the climate conditions and the adequate preventive work has helped reduce the number of fires in the province so far this year compared to the same period of 2017.
