UN Secretary-General lashes inequality in the world

UN Secretary-General lashes inequality in the worldHAVANA, Cuba, May 8 (ACN) What world is this in which a handful of men accumulate the same amount of wealth as the poorest half of humanity,? Antonio Guterres, Secretary General of the United Nations (UN), pondered in a speech in Havana city

Guterres questioned this disparity in the opening ceremony of the 37th session of the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC) at the Havana Convention Center, which will conclude its deliberations on Friday.
These inequalities make it more difficult to live with dignity, he said. Guterres warned that women continue to be the least likely to participate in the labor market, that gender discrimination is a global concern and that youth unemployment is at alarming levels.

He said that for these reasons it is more necessary than ever before to know the challenges and clarified that while globalization has brought many benefits, too many people are left behind.
The Secretary-General praised the role played by ECLAC as an authoritative voice of social justice in the global and environmental economy for development purposes.
He mentioned the fact that the UN Agenda 2030 is a global social, economic and environmental contribution to the goal of eradicating widespread poverty in the world.
He announced that a World Conference on Climate Change will be convened in September 2019 in the face of the devastating impact of hydro meteorological phenomena and said that in 2017 alone they caused losses for some 327 billion dollars.
