HAVANA, Cuba, May 7 (ACN) The President of the Cuban Council of State and Minister, Miguel Diaz-Canel Bermudez received on Monday in Havana the Secretary General of the United Nations Antonio Guterres who is on an official visit on occasion of the 37th Period of Sessions of the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean, ECLAC.
Both leaders spoke on issues related to peace and international security, Agenda 2030 for Sustainable Development and Climate Change.
The Secretary General praised Cuba's participation in the multilateral institutions. Diaz-Canel reiterated Cuba's commitment with the objectives and principles of the UN Charter, the Proclamation of Latin America and the Caribbean as Peace Zone, in addition to the conviction that a better world is possible. He also talked about the country's current process in updating the economic and social model.
Accompanying the distinguished visitor were the Executive Secretary of the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean, Alicia Barcena; Resident Coordinator of the United Nations in Cuba, Consuelo Vidal and the Assistant for Political Affairs of the Executive Office of the UN Secretary General, Katrin Hett.
Cuba's delegation was composed of Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez Parrilla, Minister for Foreign Trade and Investment, Rodrigo Malmierca Diaz; Cuba's Permanent Representative before the UN, Ambassador Anayansi Rodriguez Camejo; the General Director of Multilateral Affairs and International Law of the Foreign Ministry, Rodolfo Reyes Rodriguez.
