HAVANA, Cuba, May 2 (ACN) Representatives from all continents present during the International Solidarity with Cuba Encounter held on Thursday at Havana's Convention Center, thanked examples of Cuban solidarity offered around the world.
The participants coincided that one cannot talk about solidarity without mentioning Cuba.
The island, they said, has demonstrated examples that solidarity is not to give what is leftover but share what you have for the well-being of all.
Representatives of the Brazilian Workers Union thanked Cuba's support of former President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, currently political prisoner in the South American country, incarcerated for wanting to run for President.
Haitians thanked the island´s support in education, medicine and agriculture during the critical moments like the earthquake that shook Port Au Prince and others during the history of the Cuban Revolution.
Visitors from Syria reaffirmed that its country will maintain a firm front to the attacks and highlighted the work of Cuba in the promotion of the truth underway in that Arab republic.
Puerto Rican union leaders expressed gratitude for Cuba's position in their aspiration of self-determination and sent a message of support to the newly elected Council of State headed by President Miguel Diaz-Canel.
The participants pointed to the importance of Cuba´s internationalism, which has benefited them in the fields of education, health, sports and others in the social life of the nations.
They also talked about the need to end the commercial, economic, and financial blockade against Cuba and in the return of the illegally occupied US Naval Base in Guantanamo.
There was over one thousand delegates from 66 countries and 241 organizations at the event, many of which participated in the rally for International Workers Day at the Jose Marti Revolution Square.
