HAVANA, Cuba, Apr 26 (ACN) Some 8 thousand 570 Cuban health professions are offering their services in Brazil, specifically in the majority of the four thousand 58 municipalities where the Mas Medicos (More Doctors) program is present, according to information revealed on Thursday during the 3 rd Cuba Health 2018 Convention.
During a panel on the impact in Brazil's health system, with specialists and representatives of the South American nation and the Pan American Health Organization, Dr. Regla Angulo, Director of the Medical Cooperation Center pointed out that the coverage reaches over 36 million inhabitants.
She recalled that in November of 2013 the first four thousand Cuban health professionals were requested by the then government of Dilma Rouseff as part of the Mas Medicos program for Brazil, figure that increased 6 thousand more in the first semester of 2014.
Over 19 thousand 80 Cuban health professionals have offered their services in the last five years, mainly in the rural and indigenous areas or for low-income families. Due to their dedication and professionalism, the Cuban health professionals have gained the respect of the population and authorities, according to reports at the Convention Center.
Researcher of the University of Rio Grande del Norte, Professor Angelo Roncalli said that the health system in Brazil has strengthened and have more integrity in the attention of the population, community focus and articulation of the preventive actions and promotion of health and treatment.
In several of the events, that is part of the Cuba Health 2018 Convention, including exhibitions, experts of the Pan American and World Organizations, coordinators of the cooperation with Brazil and specialists from the South American nation have recognized the positive impact of the Cuban aid.
Cuban medical cooperation abroad is celebrating its 55th anniversary thanks to the idea of the leader of the Revolution Fidel Castro. For the last five years, thousands of doctors, nurses and technicians have offered their medical services in over 100 countries, according to statistics of the Ministry of Public Health.
