A Decade in Favor of the Development of the Zapata SwampCIENAGA DE ZAPATA, Cuba, Apr 18 (ACN) The Director of the La Voz de la Victoria community radio station, Yamilka Nieves Vazquez said on Wednesday that transmitting to the most isolated areas and reflect the territory's economic, social and cultural development was the best that has happened to her.

This humble woman born in the town of Palpite began working in the radio station days after its foundation on April 18th, 2008 and since then has learned to write up notes, edit audios, radio announcer and leads a small team eager to learn more on the magical world of radio.

The La Voz de Victoria filled in an information vacancy in the region, the largest municipality in Cuba, the smallest in population density; but with patience, the team obtained an audience, and ten years later the locals from the Zapata Swamp enjoy the five hours of transmission and eager to have more.

Nieves Vazquez told ACN that among its projections for the near future is to expand the signal in order to reach places like Santo Tomas, Guasasa and Cocodrilo, towns that currently has little or almost no radio signals.

Efrain Otano was Director of the institution that belongs to the Cuban Radio and Television Institute for a year, began working in other projects and is back, member of the writing team. He said it is a place where once must return.

One of its major strengthens is the incorporation of Julio Antonio Amorin, Historian of the Zapata Swamp, professor of the municipal university and who leads debate programs and offers the new generation the history of the major wetland in the Caribbean and ignored before 1959.

On the occasion of the 57th anniversary of the Victory of the Bay of Pigs, the Korimakao Artistic Company offered its traditional cultural gala and the central activity will be held on Thursday in front of the museum that treasures documents, photos and objects of the first defeat of US imperialism in Latin America.
