Fiagrop: Important Event for the Exchange of Experiences

HAVANA, Cuba, Mar 20 (ACN) The 21st International Agro-industrial Food Fair, Fiagrop 2018 underway in Havana's Rancho Boyeros Exhibition Center has once again become an important space for the Exchange of experiences and knowledge among exhibitors, business people and researchers.

The Director of the Agro-forestry and Coco Baracoa Company in the province of Guantanamo, Alexis Toirac Perera told ACN about the need in participating in these events with great gratitude of the Cuban exhibitors.

He also referred that the fair constitutes a perfect place for them to present a range of assortments obtained from processing cocoa and coconut.

Thanks to the exchange the participants learned how the inside hard layer of the coconut is used to obtain active coal, used as a filter in distilleries and in pharmaceutical and chemical industries, he said.

According to the specialist, the entity has the mission of supplying the raw material to a factory only of its type in Cuba in the acquisition of absorbent mineral.

Toirac also mentioned that they are working in the construction of a modern industry that will allow the refining of the coconut oil, used by Suchel Camacho S.A. in the production of several cosmetic products.

The director assured that after Hurricane Matthew in October of 2016, the cultivation areas were severely affected and are currently being used to plant 500 hectares of cocoa, one thousand 800 of coconut between 2018 and 2019.

Some 226 exhibitors from 18 countries were present in Fiagrop, the most important commercial event of the agricultural-food sector.

Among its objectives is promoting the portfolio of opportunities of foreign investment in the agricultural sector, increase the cattle culture and promote rodeo as a sport.
