HOLGUIN, Cuba, Mar 19 (ACN) The health sector in the province of Holguin has the "8 de Marzo" Maternal Home as its reference installation. The center has been opened for over a year as part of the investments aimed at contributing to a better quality of services to high-risk pregnant women.
The center was submitted to refurbishing and adaption of its areas to hold pregnant women from the 14 municipalities of the territory in the former Medicina Verde Provincial Hospital close to the Jose Marti Vocational School.
The Director of the institution, Maria Jardines told ACN that the home receives patients with diabetes, high blood pressure, restriction in uterine growth, nutritional disorders, among other pathologies for the development of the pregnancy.
She added that after a reordering process of the health services, the installation includes the four homes that existed in the main city now with 160 beds making this center the largest in capacity in the country.
The center has major availability which has allowed the incorporation of new possibilities among them a special ward where mothers can have their smaller children with them or spend more time with their loved ones, said Jardines.
OB/GYN Dailin Almaguer said that the institution has specialized attention like dentistry, genetics, psychology, a modern ultrasound machine and a permanent ambulance service facilitating the transfer to the Vladimir Ilich Lenin Hospital in case of emergencies.
Lisbedis Tamayo, who has been in the center for the last three months due to a high-risk premature labor, praised the personnel and the good living conditions.
The maternal homes began in Cuba in 1962 and Holguin has five of these centers located in the municipalities of Moa, Mayari, Banes, Cueto and the main city of Holguin with over 200 beds.
