HAVANA, Cuba, Mar 9 (ACN) The eastern province of Camaguey has been the scenario where PVC-concrete pre-fabricated homes have appeared to reanimate the built stock.
With previous and positive experience in the central province of Cienfuegos and eastern Santiago de Cuba over one thousand PVC-homes have been raised in four municipalities of Camaguey after the passage on the island of hurricane Irma.
The new homes are resistant to hurricanes, a fact proved in eastern Santiago when hurricane Sandy made landfall in October 25th, 2012 destroying hundreds of thousands of home, but the PVC ones resisted the impact of the strong winds.
To withstand the high wind speeds which are not uncommon in the region, the surface areas of the houses were constructed of robust PVC. Further protection was provided by anchoring the ceilings and wall profiles into the foundations.
The new homes, originally built in Venezuela, will benefit many families in the municipalities of Sierra de Cubitas, Esmerala and Nuevitas.
The head of the construction works, Ernesto Hernandez said they expect to have all homes ready to be given to the people in May this year.
The cost of each PVC home is calculated at some 70 thousand Cuban pesos, but workers will get them at very available price with possibilities to pay in installment over the next years.
