Internationalism Highlighted by Cuban Journalists

BAYAMO, Cuba, Mar 8 (ACN) Reporters from the eastern province of Granma that served in internationalist missions in Angola and other countries highlighted on Thursday in Bayamo that internationalism is essential in the Cuban Revolutionary process.

During a conversation held at the headquarters of the Cuban Journalists Association (UPEC) in the territory, Pedro Mora Estrada who worked in the Verde Olivo International magazine recalled the great commitment that was generated on the island at the call to help the sister nation of Angola, threatened by racist South African troops.

The mission there, he said, was reflected in the lives of the Cuban internationalists, both military and civilians and highlighted the heroism of doctors, teachers, construction and industrial workers whom in addition to carrying out their specific work risks their lives in the hostile environment of war.

Photo-reporter for Granma Internacionalista at the time, Ismael Gonzalez Gonzalez with three missions in the land of Agostinho Neto coincided in highlighting that what was most important was always to inform Cuba in the state of the Cuban combatants in Angola.

Rafael Martinez Arias, also a photo-reporter spoke about the dangers, feelings, psychological damages and horrors that generates a war and reflected on the need to prevent those type of conflicts.

The organizers of the event coincided with International Women's Day and took the opportunity to congratulate the Cuban women especially those that work as journalists.

This is also part of activities to celebrate Day of the Cuban Press on March 14th.
