Fidel Castro's Contributions to Computer Science at International Event

HAVANA, Cuba, Feb 27 (ACN) Commander in Chief Fidel Castro's contributions in the development of informatics in Cuba will be one of the main issues to be discussed during the 2nd International Encounter on the History of Informatics and Computer Science in Latin America and the Caribbean, HICAL 2018.

The event, to be held from March 19th to the 23rd in Havana's Convention Center is part of the 17th edition of the International Fair and Convention, Informatics 2018.

The Sub Director of Institutional Communication of the Ministry of Communication (MINCOM), Cecilia Valdes told ACN that the main objective of the event will be the debates on the history of informatics and computer science in the region; the formation of specialized personnel and the establishment of national policies in the field.

According to the specialist, the debates will include analyzing the progress and perspectives of the so called electronic government and information society in Latin America and the Caribbean while some of the experiences and applied projects on the development of the first computers and informatics applications in the continent.

According to Valdes, the event will encourage the analysis of the development of the networks of national data and international connections and Cuba's efforts in the formation of human capital in the informatics and computer science field.

Cuba, he said, will provide the achievements in the creation of institutions at different levels in the formation of human resources in the field, the impact of informatics in early ages, in addition to national legislation in support of the development of sector in the region.

The International Fair and Convention is a biannual event whose objective is to demonstrate scientific advances, new technologies and novelties of the sector of informatics and telecommunications.

The organizers will promote the 13 collateral events among them, conferences, workshops, congresses, seminars and international symposiums.

They will also develop the exhibition associated to Informatics 2018 in Pabexpo Center where the Business Forum will be held from March 20 th to the 23rd where solutions to Information Technologies and Communications will be presented.
