Cuba Participants in Sessions of the World Food ProgramHAVANA, Cuba, Feb 27 (ACN) Cuba is currently participating in the first period of sessions of the Executive Board of the World Food Program (WFP) with the presence of the permanent representative before the international entity based in Rome, Ambassador Jose Carlos Rodriguez.

An official note highlights that the Caribbean nation, observer of the WPF has been working for decades to reinforce its food security and actively contributes to the efforts of that UN entity.

The document adds that Cuba shares the vision that reducing hunger in the world must start from eliminating armed conflicts and a reduction to the enormous financial resources dedicated each year to new weapons.

According to Prensa Latina News Agency, the Executive Director of the WFP highlighted in the inaugural activity to the three day meeting, the current and strategic objectives of the entity in order to achieve more efficient actions in food aid before emergency situations.

He pointed out the need in achieving major preparation and prevision in favor of sustainable development and the challenge to eradicate hunger in the world by the year 2030, and pointed out the insufficient availability of resources to achieve the objective, which demands at least between 9 to 10 billion dollars a year.

The member nations of the Executive Board will receive from the Secretary of the WFP current information on its management during the meeting.

The Board is expected to also approve strategic plans for several developing countries, among which, in the case of Latin America and the Caribbean will be presented for Honduras during the 2018-2021 period.
