HAVANA, Cuba, Jan 17 (ACN) Specialists of the Environmental Regulation and Nuclear Security Office (ORASEN) urged on Wednesday in Havana in improving the system to confront environmental violations, technological and occupational security and a reduction of the contamination.
The General Director of the institution, Jorge Alvarez Alvarez said during the annual assembly held at the Information Technologies and Advanced Telematics Services Company that fifty-five percent of the 189 entities that were inspected in 2017 have action plans to decontaminate the bays.
However, he warned that in many cases, the environmental risks as part of the plan were not incorporated in the program, and only one adopted disciplinary measures against work violations.
The expert gave the example of the sale of species of important significance for biological diversity in fairs and stores located in Havana.
He mentioned the cases of fines to private workers for carrying out activities without the proper environmental license and 197 pieces mainly species like carey (sea turtle) and sigua (type of snail) were confiscated.
Alvarez also mentioned visits to mining projects with contamination risks to terrestrial waters supplied to the population and bays in general.
He also mentioned the work of the entities that generate dangerous wastes and the action plan in compliance with the Labor Code on radiology and biological occupational security.
ORASEN was founded on January 29th, 2002 and is the result of the improvement of the Ministry of Science, Technology and Environment (CITMA) system and is responsibility as state regulator.
The Inspection and Environmental Control and the National Nuclear, Biological and Chemical Centers make up the entity.
