HAVANA, Cuba, Jan 11 (acn) 141 fencers will attend the stop of the FIE Senior Women´s Epee World Cup to take place at the Havana Sports City Coliseum, from next January 19 to 21.
It highlights the presence of Estonian Julia Beljajeva, leader of the world ranking according to the official website of the International Fencing Federation (FIE by its French acronym).
Beljajeva´s curriculum includes a bronze and a gold medal, in the individual and team events respectively, in last year World Championships, in Leipzig, Germany; and the crown won in Budapest 2013 WC.
However, she will have tough opponents such as Chinese Yiwen Sun, third in the universal list and who ranked third individually at Rio 2016 Olympics; Russian Tatiana Gudkova, fourth in the world ranking; Polish Ewa Nelip (5); Ukrainian Olena Kryvytska (7); German Alexandra Ndolo (8); as well as South Korea´s In Jeong Choi (6) and Young Mi Kang (12).
Yamilka Rodriguez (168) leads the local squad which will have a unique opportunity to face high-quality fencers at home.
