Cuban Baseball: Matanzas forced to win to remain alive in the Semifinal PlayoffHAVANA, Cuba, Jan 11 (acn) The fifth and maybe decisive match of one of the semifinal playoffs of the 57th Cuban National Baseball Series between Matanzas and Granma will take place today and will be a duel between left-handers Yoanni Yera and Ulfrido Garcia.

Granma, defending champion, leads the series 3-1 but that only one loss was precisely against Yera, who barely allowed them one earned run and three hits, with 10 strikeouts and one walk in six innings in the initial game of the postseason.
But then, the Crocodiles have lost three in a row, and they are now forced to achieve three consecutive wins to reach the grand final.
This is a repetition of last season´s semifinal, which was won by Granma, who then beat Ciego de Avila in the final, thus achieving their first crown in the Cuban National Baseball Series.
The other semifinal between Industriales and Las Tunas, with balance of one win for each team, will also be played today at Havana´s Latinoamericano Stadium, occasion that will be propitious for the official retirement ceremony of Carlos Tabares, former center fielder of Industriales and the Cuban national squad.
