HAVANA, Cuba, Jan 7 (ACN) Ethiopian President Mulatu Teshome Wirtu will arrive to Cuba on Monday on an official visit and is to pay tribute to the Cuban soldiers that fell in combat during the liberation of Africa nations.
The distinguished visitor will hold official talks with Cuban authorities and carry out a program of activities, reported the CubaMinrex website.
According to the report, the political and cooperation ties between both countries are good and aimed at improving.
Ethiopia and Cuba share historic friendship ties, which were strengthened during the fight for liberation of the African continent during the 1970's.
Examples of the ties between both countries are shared in international forums, like the 4th Solidarity Encounter of the African peoples with Cuba, held in September of 2012 at the headquarters of the African Union in Addis Abeba which concluded with a communique demanding an end to Washington's economic blockade and the release of the Cuban Five.
Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez Parrilla, visited Ethiopia in 2013 and held talks with the country's leaders.
An expression of solidarity and cooperation with the African nation is the training of Ethiopian students in Cuba, issue that the island's authorities have confirmed, with special emphasis in the preparation of health professionals.
Cuba and Ethiopia's main development ties is centered in the health and agricultural sectors with perspective of opening possibilities in education and other non-traditional areas like biotechnology.
Ethiopia, second most populated country in the continent, after Nigeria, is one of the founding members of the former Organization for African Unity currently African Union.
