HAVANA, Cuba, Jan 3 (ACN) Renowned journalist Maribel Puerto, reporter from the Information System of Cuban Television passed away on Wednesday in Havana at the age of 61 due to cancer.
The websites of Cubaperiodistas and the Cuban Journalists Association (UPEC) recalled Wednesday that during her working career Maribel Puerto stood out for her sobriety and professionalism, with command of television journalism.
The UPEC Presidency expressed its condolences for the loss of Puerto, who received throughout her career the Felix Elmusa Medal and the Raul Gomez Garcia Award granted by the national Cultural workers union.
The journalist, member of the Cuban Communist Party obtained multiple recognitions for her coverage of the current religious scenario in the country and world.
Among the top coverage as reporter was the visits of the Popes to Cuba and other activities related to the current relations of the Cuban State with the ecclesiastic, fraternal associations and others.
She also did reports and documentaries on Cuban cooperation with Belize and Nicaragua and was active in journalism work related to the release of the Cuban Heroes imprisoned in US prisons for fighting terrorism.
Puerto obtained successful working ties with solidarity with Cuban organizations in several countries, reported the UPEC website.
She contributed in conferences and guest to courses on Television journalism and other educational activities of the Jose Marti International Journalism Institute and the School of Communication of the University of Havana.
