CIEGO DE AVILA, Cuba, Dec 22 (acn) A regional forum on science and technique with the participation of representatives from the central provinces ended on Friday in Ciego de Avila aimed at promoting sustainable agriculture on agro ecological bases and training of harvesters.
The initiative was organized by the National Association of Small Farmers, the Ministry of Agriculture and other institutions with the objective of increasing food production through the application of technological innovation and biological means to benefit harvests and fight plagues.
The analysis carried out in the event was directed towards individual and group advancement of the farmers, new experiences and the contribution of agronomy engineers and other specialists, including agro ecology for its benefits and protection of the environment.
Campesinos and cooperative representatives in agriculture and animal sector from Cienfuegos, Villa Clara, Sancti Spiritus, Ciego de Avila and Camaguey debated issues in four working commissions and a jury of ten members distributed special recognitions to several of the participants.
Technicians of Vegetable Hygiene offered seminars on how to fight plagues and diseases on grain, root vegetable, green vegetable and fruit not only to increase the levels of nutrients in agriculture, but also for the products to have the correspondent quality.
The participants agreed to promote actions for the members of ANAP, whose best example was expressed by Alexander Ramirez from Ciro Redondo that through agro ecology, he has his farm totally covered of fruits and root vegetable without the use of chemical products and one hundred percent of his land in use.
He affirmed that the best ecological practices must be promoted, giving the important value of the technician and specialist as an example, said Ramirez.
Enrique Avila from Ciego de Avila praised the Reproduction Centers of Entomopathogenic and Entomopathogens while the best example of using biological means in the tomato was the contribution of dozens of thousands of pesos in utilities through breeding and development of the Lixophaga mosquito.
The western region has already held its science and technique forum in Matanzas, while the eastern area also concluded their event in Santiago de Cuba, reported Roberto Salas, representative of ANAP in Ciego de Avila.
