Cuban Scientific Geology-Mining Potential Highly PraisedHAVANA, Cuba, Nov 20 (acn) The Association of Ibero-American Geology and Mining Services (ASGMI) praised on Monday in Havana the scientific-technological development of Cuban personnel and its institutional capacities in the sector.

Cuba has a rich potential in the geology-mining field and with a capable human capital, said Raul Cruz Rios, President of ASGMI and General Director of Mexico's Geology Service at Havana's Hotel Palco.

He also mentioned the existence of recognized entities among them the Geology and Paleontology Institute and the Cuban Geology Service contributing to its election as site of the 23rd ASGMI's Ordinary General Assembly.

The encounter will be inaugurated on Tuesday at the Hotel Palco with the objective of learning and exchanging experiences, not only on the island's specialties but also on tourism heritage and the promotion of geo-parks, he added.

Professionals from 15 countries, 21 that are part of the association, will attend on Tuesday and Wednesday, according to information offered on the conference.

A workshop on Geo-diversity, Geology Heritage and Geo-parks will be the first event with the participation of the Director of the Geology and Paleontology-Geology Service in Cuba, Engineer Luis Gomez Narbona.

For its geographic position, there are geology registries of the rocks that exist in Cuba and in the form it is presented in the movements of the Tectonic Plaques between South and North America in addition to the proper evolution of the Caribbean.

The 22nd Ordinary General Assembly of the ASGMI was held in Colombia in June of 2016.
