BAYAMO, Cuba, Nov 20 (acn) Puerto Rican Independence activist Oscar Lopez Rivera, currently visiting Cuba for the first time, visited on Monday the Nico Lopez Museum Park in Bayamo, former Carlos Manuel de Cespedes Military Fortress.
The site, attacked by the young revolutionaries on July 26th, 1953, as was the Moncada Garrison at the time, was organized by the leader of the Revolution, Fidel Castro and where his ashes was laid to rest last December 2nd before the final resting place in Santiago de Cuba.
The Puerto Rican independence fighter told the press that the visit to the Caribbean island has been a dream that became a reality and has acquired tremendous experience.
He said that the struggles of Cuba and Puerto Rica have been united since the call for independence, achieved thanks to National Hero Jose Marti and the Cuban Revolutionary Party and most recently by Fidel Castro, although, unfortunately Borinquen remains a colony.
Oscar said that Commander in Chief Fidel Castro taught us that victory is possible and after the triumph of the Revolution, Cuba continues to demonstrate that it rises before each attempt of the US to destroy its sovereignty.
Lopez Rivera placed a floral wreath to Nico Lopez, one of the revolutionaries that participated in the attack against the Carlos Manuel de Cespedes Garrison and tours the museum.
He also toured the La Demajagua National Park in the city of Manzanillo where the Father of the Homeland Carlos Manuel de Cespedes began his struggle for Cuba's independence.
Oscar Lopez Rivera was released from prison last May 17th after Barack Obama pardoned the impendence leader after almost 36 years in prison for fighting for the liberation of Puerto Rico.
