HAVANA, Cuba, Nov 17 (ACN) The 180th anniversary of the arrival of the railroad to Cuba, the first country in America to have this means of transportation, will be celebrated in the town of Bejucal, 26 kilometers south of Havana.
The first train trip took place on November 19, 1837, between the cities of Havana and Bejucal and had a great impact on the following economic development of the island.
The remembrance will have an extensive cultural program, which includes the performances of several of the most important Cuban musicians.
In Félix Pita Rodríguez culture center, a series of lectures will be given related to the development of the railroad in Cuba, the influence of the United States and its socio-economic impact.
Mariela Márquez, Culture ministry official in the municipality, also reported that a photographic exhibition that includes historical aspects of the railway will be inaugurated in the municipal museum.
