HAVANA, Cuba, Nov 1 (acn) National Brazil Day was [I1] celebrated on Wednesday in the context of the 35th International Havana Trade Fair, FIHAV 2017 with desires of reinforcing economic and commercial relations between the South American nation and Cuba.
Deputy Foreign Trade Minister, Roberto Lopez Hernandez said that there is expectation in broadening contacts and contracts with the Brazilian business sector in different parts of the country.
The Deputy Minister invited all participants to analyze the new portfolio of opportunities of foreign investment to the year 2018 presented on Tuesday at the fair and attempt to direct its interests towards the over 450 projects.
He also highlighted Cuba’s victory on Wednesday afternoon at the UN General Assembly where 191 countries voted in favor of ending the blockade while 2 voted against (the US and Israel) and no abstention; and thanked the systematic support of Brazil in these forums.
He stressed that the huge participation at the trade fair is a clear condemnation of the US blockade against the island.
Antonio Alves Jr., Brazilian ambassador and business attache in Havana commented that the broad presence of Brazil to FIHAV indicates the importance that his government gives Cuba and its interest in strengthening the economic ties between both sides.
In this sense, the Presidnet of the Brazilian Agency in the Promotion of Exports and Investment (Apex-Brazil), Roberto Jaguaribe, assured that his country’s interests in Cuba is understood from the three basic dimensions of the entity he respresents.
Promote trade and exports, attract foreign investments for Brazil and support the business executives and industries, productive forces to establish in other countries, he said.
They all coincide that there are areas in which Brazil has experience and in which Cuba needs help, like agriculture and electric sectors, construction materials, cosmetics, shoes and furniture and cooperation is a key factor.
He also recognized the contribution of Cuba through programs like Mas medicos, thanks to the over 8 thousand specialists that are offering their medical services to the Brazilian people.
Brazil has close to five thousand 600 municipalities and in two thousand of them, the only doctors are Cuban, said Antonio Alves, Jr.
The Brazilian delegation that is participating at FIHAV 2017 is made up by some 45 exhibitors, 21 delegations and some 70 business executives, he said.
Brazil is one of Cuba’s main trading partners in the region and is among the first 10 in the world with an average of exchange of over 600 million dollars in the last five years, said the Deputy Minister of Foreign Trade.
