PINAR DEL RIO, Cuba, Oct 11 (acn) The President of Viajes Cuba, Jose Manuel Bisbe York, highlighted on Wednesday in Pinar del Rio the importance of expanding cruise ships at the Guanahacabibes Peninsula, located in the country's most western region marked with beauty and virginity.
In statements to the press, he said that there is a high demand of this tourism modality at Maria la Gorda beach in the previous six stages and there is experience and major availability of resources to guarantee a pleasant stay in that region with quality services to visitors.
The contact was held after the conclusion of a meeting in which preparations for the upcoming period was analyzed, headed by Commander of the Rebel Army, Julio Camacho Aguilera, member of the Central Committee and Director of the Guanahacabibes Comprehensive Development Office (ODIG), which coordinates the actions in the beautiful peninsula and unexpected legends.
The General Director of Cubanacan Travel, Mercedes Abreu Mesa, said that current ships visiting the region repeat their visits while others are joining in for the first time. The visitors will have different options like the Footsteps of Tobacco, hiking, bike trips and other initiatives.
The Footsteps of the Honey, she said, is an attraction in Guanahacabibes that has not been promoted much and we are expecting to slowly insert the project in the region.
She said that Viajes Cuba reported 89 docks last year with over 30 ships, among them cruises, mega yachts, and other small and medium size vessels some with over 900 passengers and the challenge is to increase in the upcoming season.
The specialist explained that this type of tourism is not complicated; leaves good earnings for the country and generally, the visitors are older adults.
She referred to the importance to achieve attracting mega yachts and cruisers that depart from Tampa to make it easy to reach the region and it becomes a terminal for those vessels.
During the meeting, the specialists discussed ways to guarantee the conservation of nature and safety of the travelers.
