International Meeting on Children in HavanaHAVANA, Cuba, Oct 11 (acn) The 6th International Meeting on Children and Youth kicked off on Wednesday at the University of Havana with a call to rethink and dialog on the new generation, its challenges and uncertainties.

The event, organized by the Study Group on Youth of the Psychology and Sociology Research Center and the Working Group of the Latin American Council on Social Sciences has over 100 works of authors from 10 regional nations among them, Mexico, Brazil, Ecuador and Cuba.

Several panels will discuss public policies, sociopolitical practices, social movements, inequality, and social inclusion-exclusion, communication, technologies and violence.

Maria Isabel Dominguez, coordinator of the Working Group said that the event is of great importance because it constitutes consolidation of an experience initiated in 2006 in which they can analyze, dialog and propose issues that affect children in the region.

The event coincided with two important events: the death of Ernesto Che Guevara, "one of the most illustrious critical thinkers of our continent", and the creation of CLACSO.

The Director of the Working Group, Pablo Vommaro highlighted the relevance the event has in Cuba, "a country that is inviting us to share experiences, challenges, tensions, but also creative initiatives in order to image and construct together a better present".

The Director of the Advanced Children and Youth Research Center, University of Manizales in Colombia, who was not able to attend in the inauguration, sent a video recalling that the event is celebrating 10 years of CLACSO, with important debates for the continent.
