HAVANA, Cuba, Oct 4 (acn) The Fukuoka Softbank Hawks, team of the Japanese Professional Baseball League (NPB) is looking for sluggers, similar to Cuban Alfredo Despaigne, said in this city Kenta Hagiwara, scout of the club in Latin America.
Hagiwara told ACN that he does not yet have any special interest in any Cuban player, but does not rule out the possibility of adding more than one in the next NPB season.
I´m seeing players of any age, I initially watched the U23 tournament, then witnessed the Cuban performance at the U18 World Cup, last September in Canada, and now I am watching the national senior series, he said.
The specialist noted that he is impressed by the Cuban players because of their physical conditions, and in this respect he emphasized: "They are generally very athletic, although they do not totally dominate the fundaments of the game, something they can learn in Japan".
The Japanese scout stated he will also watch the performance of Cuban pitchers, something in which the Hawks are significantly interested in.
Currently, this organization has three Cubans in their ranks: lefty reliever Livan Moinelo, young switch-hitter Oscar Colas and slugger Alfredo Despaigne, the latter in his consecration campaign with 35 home runs and 103 RBIs, NPB leader in both stats.
