Solidarity Gestures of Foreign Youths Studying in Cuba

ARTEMISA, Cuba, Aug 15 (acn) The 9th International Student Solidarity Brigade was created on Tuesday at the Julio Antonio Mella Camp located on the outskirts of Havana with the commitment of always supporting Cuba and its people in the fight for just causes.

Some 100 youths from 30 countries from universities in the provinces of Havana, Mayabeque and Artemisa donated part of their vacation to do voluntary work and contribute to the country's economy.

The situation will be an opportunity to expand ties of brotherhood among the different regions (Latin America-Caribbean, Asia-Oceania and Africa and Middle East) because we "all have different ways of looking at reality", said Alvaro Kidiwa, Young Angolan in his 5th year of medicine.

He added that the good side of studying in Cuba, is not the chance of becoming a good professional but receiving a comprehensive education that teaches us to become better human beings.

The Director of the Department of Africa and Middle East of the Cuban Institute of Friendship with the Peoples (ICAP), Jose Prieto told the brigadistas that they represent the future of the solidarity with Cuba and urged them to take advantage of conferences that they will receive in the coming days to learn more on the realities of the US blockade against Cuba.

Representative of the Palestinian people and member of the International Peace, Justice and Dignity Committee with the Peoples, Bassel Ismail, demanded the return of the illegally occupied US Naval Base in Guantanamo to Cuba after a 47-minute documentary that shows the reality of the people that live in that eastern city.

He highlighted the love of the Arab people for the leader of the Cuban Revolution Fidel Castro, which was the first president interested in the situation of the Palestinian refugees. The relation between Cuba and my people was born with the Revolution in 1959, he said.
