Activists from the 24th Latin American and Caribbean Working and Solidarity Brigade to Celebrate 91st Anniversary of Birth of Fidel

HAVANA, Cuba, Aug 11 (acn) Activists from the 24th Latin American and Caribbean Voluntary Working and Solidarity with Cuba Brigade remembered on Friday the life of the leader of the Revolution, Fidel Castro on occasion of the 91st anniversary of his birth on August 13th.

The tribute to the Cuban leader was held at the Institute of Friendship with the Peoples (ICAP), in Havana during a ceremony that recalled the legacy of the eminent political leader, who passed away on November 25 th, 2016 at the age of 90.

Representing the 75 brigadistas from 11 regional countries, Colombian union leader Duban Velez ratified their solidarity with the Cuban people and their commitment to promote unity in defense of the sovereignty of the Caribbean island in Latin America and the Caribbean.

Reading the final declaration of the Brigade, the Colombian union leader also expressed his support to the progressive, revolutionary and integration processes in the continent.

He also supports the Ecuadorean people to continue their Citizen's Revolution while praising the victory of the Venezuelan people last July 39th during the election to select the members of the Constituent National Assembly.

Velez condemned Washington's economic commercial and financial blockade against Cuba for over half a century in addition to the media campaigns that attempt to minimize the achievements of the Cuban Revolution.

He also demanded the return of the illegally occupied US Naval Base in Cuban territory and the end of the US financed subversion programs, illegal radio, and television transmissions against the island.

As part of the activity in honor of Fidel, the brigadistas praised his struggle in favor of the poor in Latin America and the world.
First Vice President of ICAP, Elio Gamez recalled the permanent international solidarity of the Commander in Chief, and his statement that "Cuba does not contribute leftovers but share what it has".

The President of the International Peace, Justice and Dignity of the Peoples Committee, Graciela Ramirez, assured that Fidel was brilliant, for not only dignifying Cuba and the peoples of Latin America and the Caribbean, "but because he left an extraordinary legacy and hopes of victory and demonstrated that nothing is impossible for those that fight for justice".

Ramirez valued that the absolute trust he had in the people was the major legacy of "one of the most extraordinary men in the 20th century and current times, who gave it all not only for Cuba, but for humanity".

The young workers at ICAP ratified that the Cuban delegation to the upcoming World Festival of Youth and Students to be held in Sochi, "will be guided by the ideas of Fidel and will demonstrate the commitment of the new Cuban generation with its history".
