HAVANA, Cuba, Aug 9 (acn) The Cuban national basketball men´s team beat 76-71 a squad from the American University of Louisiana.

Cuba´s leading scorers were pivot Javier Justiz, with 23 points, and power-forward Jasiel Rivero (19), while Jonathan Stove (17) and Frank Bartley (14) highlighted for the visitors.
Yoanis Zaldivar, Cuban head coach, said this is a three-game friendly match very useful as training ahead of the China 2019 World Cup qualifiers to start next November where Cuba was included in a very tough group against USA, Puerto Rico and Mexico.
Zaldivar added he expects to count with the entire roster for that contest as PG Osmel Oliva, PF Orestes Torres, F Lisvan Valdes and P Yoel Cubillas didn´t attend this match as they are enrolled in the Salvadoran Professional League.
Lee Frederik, president of Sport Tours International and promoter of this exchange and a coming one in the women´s category, stated that it has always been a dream to help Cuban basketball organizing matches like this, in addition to clinics such as the one made before the game with young players from Havana city.
"We hope to continue doing this in this sport and in others, there is no reason to stop these friendly exchanges, both in sports and in other spheres as most of the American people want," he told JIT about future collaborations.
Bob Marlin, coach of the American team, said they hope to improve on the following games agreed for Havana´s Sports City Coliseum today and tomorrow.
