Cuban Baseball: Current Monarch reaches First Win

HAVANA, Cuba, Aug 8 (acn) Based on Leandro Martinez´s pitching and a 13-hit attack, Granma, current monarch, defeated home 10-3 Villa Clara to achieve their first win in the current 57th Cuban National Baseball Series.

Martinez got the win after allowing only two runs in seven innings, while there was offensive highlight to 2B Carlos Benítez, who hit three hits, including a home run and a double.
Meanwhile, at Latinoamericano stadium, Isla de la Juventud beat away 12-9 Industriales in a match where both pitching staffs granted 21 walks, 13 out of them to the account of the local side.
DH Gerardo Casi stood out for the winners with a homer and a double and the win went to reliever Miguel Lastra, while Dairon Duran took the loss.
Matanzas surpassed for the second time over Mayabeque, now 9-3, with win to the experienced Jonder Martinez who pitched six-scoreless innings and his teammates offensively supported with three homeruns.
Ciego de Avila won their two games against Guantanamo, as they also resumed the suspended one last Sunday and the winners were right-handers Vladimir Garcia and Dachel Duquesne.
In other results, Las Tunas defeated Sancti Spíritus 4-1; Artemisa won 8-2 over Cienfuegos and Holguin beat 4-1 Santiago de Cuba.
The match Pinar del Rio-Camagüey was suspended by rain.
