The Snake Rally at the Caribbean Festival in Santiago de Cuba

Santiago de Cuba, Cuba, Jul 5 (ACN) The traditional Desfile de la Serpiente (Snake Rally) was held on Wednesday in Santiago de Cuba as part of the Caribbean Festival, which began on Monday and will run until the 9th.

The rally began at the Dolores Square, continued to the popular Aguilera Street, and ended in the Mercado Plaza.

Prior to the rally, in front of the historic Ayuntamiento building, currently the provincial assembly in Santiago, the participating delegations at the festival offered a representation of their culture through songs and dances and exhibition of traditional costumes and decorative elements giving the rally a colorful scene.

The International Casa del Caribe Award was granted to Bantu Yoruba of the municipality of San Luis and Rosaida Zamora, cultural promoter of the Casa del Caribe in Santiago de Cuba.

Meanwhile, the provincial government received a Special Recognition for its support of the Caribbean Festival considered to be one of the most popular and traditional cultural event in the region.

Attending the activities were the First Secretary of the Cuban Communist Party in Santiago, Lazaro Exposito Canto and the President of the Provincial Assembly of the People's Power Beatriz Johnson Urrutia.

Nina den Heyer, Deputy of Social, Education and Culture Affairs, of the island of Bonaire, whose delegation headed the rally with enthusiasm that attracted the public at the Cespedes Park and surrounding area.

The Snake Rally is one of the most popular activities at the Fire Festival and with a participation of over 700 people, 200 of them from Bonaire.

This edition of the Caribbean Festival is dedicated to the island of Bonaire.
