Nominees Ratified for Conservation and Restoration Award

Havana, Cuba, Apr 6 (acn) More than a dozen installations will compete for the National Conservation and Restoration Award to be granted on the 18 th, World Monument and Sites Day, according to the organizing committee.

The objective of the prize, granted each year is to promote the protection and recovery of installations with heritage value.

This contest pretends to save heritages, a very important part of history and life of the archipelago.

According to Gladys Collazo President of the National Council of Cultural Heritage, they will also inaugurate on the 18 an exhibition dedicated to the 50th anniversary of the assassination of Ernesto Che Guevara, which will be exhibited across the island.

Six installations were nominated by conservation among them, the Oscar Maria Rojas Museum in Matanzas and the house where the leader of the Cuban Revolution Fidel Castro visited in 1958 in the General Headquarters of the Rebel Army in La Plata.

The Marqueta Plaza in Holguin and the home where Abel Santamaria was born in Villa Clara are among the nominees in the category of restoration.

Members of the National Monument Commission, the Artists and Writers Association (UNEAC), School of Architecture of the Higher Polytechnic Institute, the Cuban chapter of the International Monument and Sites Council and the National Union of Architects and Construction Engineers make up the jury.

The Provincial Commissions of Monuments and the Municipal Offices of Monuments in the Isle of Youth propose the nominees of the National Award in Conservation and Restoration of Monuments.
