Cuba: Production of sugarcane bagasse panels recovers

CIEGO DE AVILA, Cuba, Apr 5 (acn) Workers from Omar Rosado Alonso artificial wood factory produced in the last 20 days of March more than 1,400 sugarcane bagasse panels for Azcuba Group, thus showing its stability after several years inactive.

The goal of its workers in the current campaign is to reach seven thousand cubic meters of these constructive elements, for which they have more than 11 thousand tons of bagasse, engineer Onel Denis Álvarez, director of the plant, told ACN.
The same workers rescued the industry after more than 10 years inactive, and nowadays they have the help provided by January 1st sugar mill which supplies them the bagasse.
The investment made amounted to about 3 million Cuban pesos, so the unit has the capacity to generate boards from 12 to 25 millimeters thick, with prospects also to produce polished panels that, logically, will have superior quality, said Alvarez.
The "Omar Rosado Alonso" is part of the diversification of the province agro-sugar sector that also includes the production of alcohols at Enrique Varona plant and the torula in the Ciro Redondo entity, where it is also produced the bio-stimulant Fitomas-E, very useful in sugarcane and various crops development.
According to specialists in the field, sugarcane bagasse accounts for 65 percent of sugar by-products, and historically covers one-third of energy needs, as well as being vital in grinding of the mills and delivering electricity to the generating plants.
