Cuba speeds up building of house water tanks to face drought

HAVANA, Cuba, Mar 31 (ACN) The Local Construction Materials Industry in Cuba will assume the manufacture of 143,455 concrete tanks, a measure that responds to the country's urgency to guarantee households water tanks to counteract the effects of drought.

That amount is included among the 400,000 Cuba will manufacture this year, including those made of plastic by other companies, reported Manuel Tomás Vázquez Enríquez, director of the entity at national level.

During the X Evaluation of this program in the province, Vázquez Enríquez pointed out that the task is a priority in the Island given the critical situation the country is in due to the scarce rainfall in the last almost four years.

There is a guarantee of all resources such as cement, aggregates, wire rod and flat zinc plates (metal sheets) to make the molds from the coming April,

He informed that Ciego de Ávila, one of the provinces most affected by the lack of water in its reservoirs and water table, as a consequence of the long dry period, will build 13,000 but to cover the actual demand they will need another 55,000.

In this regard, José Antonio Martínez Estévez, director of the provincial Construction Materials Company, told that the production of this assortment in the territory has grown due to the high demand it shows in the stores of the Ministry of Internal Commerce, where they are sold at 357 pesos apiece.

With the supplies that enter each municipality, they will be in better conditions to make the tanks, whose storage capacity is 1,200 liters, added Martínez Estévez.
