HAVANA, Cuba, Mar 31 (ACN) Social workers in the eastern Cuban province of Santiago de Cuba delivered aid in 2016 to close to 16,000 families in need of social assistance.
Social Assistance specialists reported there was an increase in the number of households receiving temporary cash benefits, services, goods, social assistance to elders and mother of child with severe disability at home, and food.
Ángela Vega, one of the specialists, said on the TV Santiago website that more than 11,400 elderly adults are offered special care, 301 of them with help at home.
The delivery of resources obtained in government stores, given for free to the beneficiaries, is done to those who require assistance for their pathological diagnosis or other situation after receiving a certification by the Ministry of Public Health.
Among the favored families are those with children from zero to 18 years old with low prevalence diseases, other households that have people with physical limitations, partial or total, or low income, such as Yesenia Cardona, who received a refrigerator to preserve food and medicines for her child.
Multiple cystic fibrosis is the genetic disease that affects Yesenia's child to whom she dedicates a lot of time to care for.
During 2016, the Provincial Administration Council delivered 54 electrical appliances, including air conditioners, refrigerators and blenders at a market value of over 134,900 pesos.
Each year millions of pesos are allocated for this humanitarian activity in Cuba.
