During a meeting with specialists from the provincial delegation of water resources in this territory, Díaz-Canel highlighted the actions put into practice and the more than 200 workers from other provinces providing help to Ciego de Ávila.

Engineer Sergio Barrios, director of that organization, said that the aquifer in Ciego de Ávila only has 21 percent of its total capacity, as there are almost 40 months without rain here, and the reservoirs only store 11,8 percent of their total capacity.

He noted that today there are only 160 million cubic meters of water in the subsoil from the one billion that used to be three years ago.

Barrios added that a desalination plant will be built in Cayo Coco and another one is planned for the port of Júcaro, while another two drinking water facilities will be constructed in the municipality of Florencia and in the Venezuela town.
