Mountainous Areas of Holguin to Benefit from New Transportation

Holguin, Cuba, Mar 23 (acn) The population from the mountainous region of Holguin will benefit this year from the arrival of over a dozen vehicles.

The eastern area whose road infrastructure makes it difficult to access communities will soon have new Kmaz trucks, which has the ideal characteristics to travel through those towns.

The head of operations of the Provincial Transportation Center, Delio Guerrero told ACN that the lot of 10 cars will add to others already in this area.

He added that the first trucks, already in Holguin will be destined to Mayari, Frank Pais, Sagua de Tanamo and Moa four of the five municipalities of the Turquino Plan.

The second lot of vehicles will include the municipality of Cueto, another town included in the development program founded by the Cuban Council of State on June 2nd, 1987 with the objective of achieving an integral development of the mountainous regions in the Caribbean nation.

By the end of 2016, over 14 thousand 700 trips were made with passengers, 84 percent of what was foreseen. This situation should improve this year with the incorporation of the new trucks.

Cuba's mountainous zone constitutes 18 percent of the country's surface, with some 678 thousand inhabitants, equivalent to 6 percent of the total population, with a stable tendency and a small reduction of specific periods, according to specialized calculations of the National Statistics Office.
