GUANTANAMO, Cuba, Mar 23 (acn) Dr. Arturo Breff, rector of Guantanamo University, told ACN that scientific support for recovery efforts in the municipalities damaged by Hurricane Matthew is a priority task for his institution.
He noted that this center conducts a participatory diagnosis for the design and strengthening of a system of agro-ecological cocoa production in Sagua-Baracoa massif, seat of the greater areas of this plant, which were severely by Matthew.
Only in the fields that surround Baracoa, he specified, the hydro-meteorological phenomenon affected more than 3, 635 hectares, and the economy of the farmers devoted to that crop.
Compensating these damages is one of the purposes of this scientific activity, which is based on research, development and innovation, the main organizational way for the planning of international projects managed in 2016, and those coming soon.
