Havana, Cuba, Mar 22 (acn) The Agriculture Ministers from Cuba and the Czech Republic signed on Tuesday in Havana, a memorandum of understanding on veterinary, organic production, research techniques and agricultural management for the conservation of soils.
Gustavo Rodriguez Rollero, Cuba's Agriculture Minister expressed that the documents signed at the Ministry will allow an expansion of cooperation ties in strategic sectors between both countries.
According to the Minister, the agricultural sector has a business portfolio of 54 projects in pork, grain production, chicken and milk in addition to renewable energy sources.
He pointed out that the Special Development Zone of Mariel in the province of Artemisa is currently in the construction phase of a modern factory for the production of cigarettes from Cuban tobacco, allowing the productive capacity to double and increase exports.
According to the same source, the agricultural system has three joint ventures working in the tobacco sector: one for the production of cigars and the other two dedicated to cigarettes and mini cigars.
Honey and vegetable coal are the most important exportable materials after tobacco, he said.
Marian Jurecka, Agriculture Minister of the Czech Republic expressed interest in fomenting relations with his Cuban counterpart with the objective of sharing experience and knowledge.
The Czech government official said that they are willing to closely collaborate and offer the necessary technology for the storage of products, irrigation systems, among other technologies.
The Czech Republic is located in Central Europe and its capital is Prague, has a territorial extension of more than 78 thousand square kilometers and its population surpassed 10 million inhabitants, according to statistics.
