Havana has 42 New Wi-Fi Hotspots so far this year

Havana, Cuba, Mar 20 (acn) Havana Parks now has 42 new Wi-Fi hotspots so far this year, totaling 100 in the Cuban capital guaranteeing Internet access to the population.

The Director of the Havana Division of the Cuban Telecommunication Company (ETECSA) told ACN that they will inaugurate another 8 areas in the province before April 4th which is the 55th and 56th anniversary of the Young Communist League (UJC) and Jose Marti Children's Pioneer Organization (OPJM), respectively.

There will be a new Wi-Fi park in Boyeros; Cerro and San Miguel del Padron; and two in Revolution Plaza and Central Havana, said Rodriguez.

She added that they are currently working in remodeling the parking area of Coppelia Ice Cream Parlor in downtown Havana to offer Wi-Fi to the population to be ready by April 4th.

Before the end of March they will also complete the Wi-Fi technology in the second half of Malecon, said the specialist.

The ETECSA specialist commented that the only service in that area of Havana is at Belascoain and four other sites up to Prado, which are: in front of the Castropol Restaurant, Hispanic-American Cultural Center and la Abadia in addition to Hotel Deauville; however there are strategic areas that will not have public connection.

Eudes Monier Nunez, head of the Market and Communication Department of the ETECSA's Territorial Division told ACN last year that the beginning of the service in Havana's Malecon Seaside Drive would depend on the development on the assembly of the technology.

Regarding the decision of taking the Wi-Fi service to this area, Monier Nunez said that they took into account the traffic people there, mainly the younger generation that use Internet.

Another of the priorities of the ETECSA Havana Division for 2017 is to grow to 90 of the radio basis, adding to over 200 in the country and with a better quality of its service.

The Telecommunications Company installed early this year the technical equipment for the connection in another five sites in Havana: the La Piragua and Hola Ola Parks, El Castillito Recreational Center, and the corner of 3rd and B streets in Vedado Neighborhood and the Fountain of Youth.
