State-of-art German diesel power plant to be largest in Cuba
HAVANA, Cuba, Mar 18 (ACN) The largest diesel power plant in Cuba, of German technology, capable of producing 84 megawatt per hour will start operations before year´s end in central Cienfuegos province.
Engineer Attius Rodriguez, specialists at the Cuban Electricity Company, explained the plant has 40 German MTU diesel engines, the most advanced technology of its kind in Cuba.
Rodriguez said they started preparing the site last January and will have to dig some 120 thousand cubic meters to lay afterwards some 78 thousand of compact filling where the plant will be located.
The crew of the construction company, made up of 67 workers, plan to halve the time they are expected to finish the laying of the foundations, originally of six months, to enable the plant to be operational before New Year´s eve.
The new facility is next to the Cienfuegos refinery, from where it will receive through pipes some 1240 barrels of diesel to operate 10 hours a day. This proximity avoids having to bring the fuel in cistern trucks.
The plant will be connected to the National Power Grid and its output will cover 60 percent of the demand of the province of Cienfuegos
