HAVANA, Cuba, Mar 17 (ACN) The Evelio Prieto Bus Manufacturing Enterprise, located in the western Cuban province of Artemisa, produced 572 buses in 2016 that will be used for public transportation through Cuba.
The figure represents the enterprise produced 19 percent more than planned for the year, and that translated into better salaries for its workers, according to its director, Enrique Martinez.
Martinez said that the workers average salary was of around 1,500 Cuban pesos. The enterprise received all the raw materials in time, allowing it to fulfill the quota and grow as well.
However, this situation has changed this year due to financial constraints that forced management to move workers from the production areas to those of maintenance, he added.
In 2017, they will produce some 40 buses a month, and replace floors to another 60 units that transport people in Havana city. They are also in charge of repairing some 140 buses belonging to the Ministries of Transportation and of the Revolutionary Armed Forces.
Thanks to last year´s output, the province of Artemisa could cover all existing routes with this kind of domestic buses, made in a joint venture with the Chinese company Yutong.
