National Architecture Awards in Holguin

Holguin, Cuba, Mar 13 (acn) The National Architecture and Construction Engineers Association granted on Monday in the city of Holguin the Awards for the work of a life time to Zulma Ojada from Guatanamo and Augusto Rivero from Santiago de Cuba.

On occasion of the commemoration of March 13th, Day of Cuban Architecture, the association recognizes each year those that have had an outstanding accomplishment in the sector.

Both Ojeda and Rivero were distinguished with the award, which reflects their long and excellent work in the sector during a ceremony in the eastern city of Holguin.

Augusto Rivero, with over 50 years dedicated to the field, was founder of the School of Architecture of the University of Oriente and currently works as a professor at the Polytechnic University in Havana where he has carried out significant contributions related with environmental design.

Zulma Ojeda, current Director of the Integral Development Group in Guantanamo is a tireless fighter for urban order and the care of heritage because Architecture is a cultural expression.

The architect from Santiago de Cuba expressed gratitude to the professors that helped him in his formation and those that share each day the development of their teaching and working programs.

This prize is for my people in Guantanamo, said Ojeda, because I work for them and I do all I can for my city to be beautiful and have the recognition of the people.

Luis Antonio Torrres Iribar, First Secretary of the Communist Party in Holguin and Mercedes Elesther, President of the Architect and Engineering Association attended the ceremony that was held at the La Periquera Museum, National Monument.

Torres Iribar recognized that it's the responsibility of the leaders to lead in the development and management of the territories particularly referred to the projects underway in the province of Holguin aimed at improving the urban area within the new local development program.
