HAVANA, Cuba, Feb 20 (ACN) From January 1st till February 17, 979 Cubans that were in other countries without proper migration status were returned to Cuba.
On Friday February 17, 2 Cubans that tried to enter the United States illegally were sent back in the first charter flight used for this kind of operations. Since the January 12 migratory agreement signed between Cuba and the United States removing the so-called dry foot, wet foot policy, 680 Cubans have been deported back from several countries in the region.
Before this charter flight, 40 Cubans were sent in commercial flights after being stopped at US borders, and also 75 that were caught in the sea trying to enter illegally in US territory.
From Mexico, between January 12th and February 15th, 264 migrants that were illegally in that nation and 144 that were trying to enter by plane were deported back to Cuba fulfilling migratory agreements between the two countries.
Also, 117 and 39 Cubans were returned by the governments of Bahamas and Cayman Islands, respectively.
