Cuban electricity company invest heavily to support food programSANCTI SPIRITUS, Cuba, Jan 5 (acn) The Electricity Company of the province of Sancti Spíritus executed during 2016 dissimilar investments with great economic and social impact, including those designed to sustain and increase the food program of the territory.

According to Raidel Díaz Vega, Director of Investments in this organization, they carried out works at Sur del Jíbaro Agribusiness Grain Company, main entity of the agricultural sector in the province and one of the largest rice producers in Cuba, as well as in El Maizal, area dedicated to the planting of several crops, such as onion and tomato.
Diaz Vega said the investments were mainly focused on improving irrigation systems of these entities due to the intense drought and the decrease of the volumes of water in Zaza damp.
But investments also include the construction of a waste treatment system and the first solar photovoltaic park in the territory connected to the National Electric System, which estimated generation capacity is 5.1 megawatt / hour each day and which ceases to emit more than 1 600 tons of polluting gases into the atmosphere.
The official stressed the electrification of 150 houses by placing a photovoltaic solar module of 250 watts of power and noted that these homes did not have that benefit by being located in areas of difficult access or extremely distant.
