SANTIAGO DE CUBA, Cuba, Dec 19 (acn) The 2016-2017 sugar harvest in the province of Santiago de Cuba began ahead of the scheduled date at Paquito Rosales sugar mill, in the municipality of San Luis.
During the 124 days the season lasts, this entity expects to reach an industrial efficiency superior to the past one and obtain 22 000 tons of sugar mora this year.
The sugar cane producing units of San Luis and Songo-La Maya, in this same province, plan to deliver 230 000 tons of sugarcane in their 12 cutting fronts.
Luis Blanco, director of operations of the sugar harvest in the territory, explained that they intend to grow by 40 percent when compared to 2015, based on the organization and quantity of sugarcane that will allow producing 100 000 tons of sugar in the province.
They made important investments in the cane reception modules, mainly in Mella, Paquito Rosales and San Luis sugar mills.
Progress was also made in the repair of roads, the lift trucks are ready, as well as the equipment of insurance and everything related to the attention to the man, Blanco concluded.
