Uruguayans Bid Farewell to the Leader of the Cuban Revolution Fidel CastroHavana, December 5 (ACN) Men and women from different generations bid farewell on Sunday to the leader of the Cuban Revolution Fidel Castro during a political-cultural ceremony held in Montevideo, Uruguay.

According to Prensa Latin News Agency, the activity was organized by the PIT-CNT labor union, the Federation of University Students and other social organizations. Former Uruguayan President Jose Mujica and his wife Senator Lucia Topolansky participated in the tribute as well as local and national authorities, legislators and representatives of the Frente Amplio.

The participants shouted, Yo Soy Fidel (I am Fidel), Viva Cuba y la Revolucion (Long Live Cuba and its Revolution) and Cuba, Cuba, el pueblo te Saluda (Cuba, Cuba, the People Greet you) in support of the Cuban people's grief over the death of its historic leader.

Valeria Machado, student at the Havana based Latin American School of Medicine (ELAM) pointed out that the graduate students have the enormous task of loyalty and worthy of being the sons and daughters of the Cuban Revolution.

She added that there are 12 Uruguayans that have graduated from the center which was created by Fidel, with some 578 doctors, of which 78 percent live outside the capital city and today 74 live in their hometowns.

Machado highlighted that the best way of paying tribute to the Commander in Chief is being internationalist health professions, expressing solidarity to others and capable of reaching the must humble peoples that most need their services. "Thank you Fidel, your army of white coats are Present", said the young doctor.

The Uruguayan ambassador to Cuba, Mercedes Sotolongo pointed out that Fidel has begun his "passage to immortality" when buried close to the Jose Marti Monument in Santa Ifigenia Church in eastern Santiago de Cuba.

For Sotolong, Fidel's example is a commitment for revolutionaries in Cuba and the world. We will now have the conviction of defending Fidel's legacy at any cost", he said.
