Fidel Castro´s funeral procession enters Santiago de Cuba

Fidel Castro´s funeral procession enters Santiago de CubaHAVANA, Cuba, Dec 3 (ACN) After traveling a thousand kilometers, the funeral procession carrying the ashes of Cuban leader Fidel Castro arrived to its last stop, the eastern city of Santiago de Cuba.

Some minutes after midday, the Caravan of Freedom reached the outskirts of the city, where hundreds of thousands of people were waiting to pay tribute to Fidel, who died last November 25, at 90 years of age.

Crowds flying flags of the July 26 Movement and of Cuba, visibly moved, took the sides of the Central Highway chanting Fidel, Fidel! And Yo soy Fidel! (I am Fidel). Several generations of Cubans had been waiting for hours under the sun to be part of the tribute, as millions of their countrymen had done for the last three and a half days.

Tonight, at seven, there will be a mass assembly at the Antonio Maceo Revolution Square, with the attendance of several heads of state and government, and important personalities from all walks of life.

Cuban President Raul Castro will deliver a speech to conclude the assembly. On Sunday, December 4, in a private ceremony at the Santa Ifigenia cemetery, the ashes of the historic leader of the Cuban Revolution will be buried
