Peace Boat Members to Visit Havana's Latin American Medical School

HAVANA, Cuba, Oct 26 (acn) A group of survivors of the 1945 atomic bombings of Hiroshima y Nagasaki who travel in the Peace Boat will meet with Cuban representatives and students on Wednesday at Havana's Latin American Medical School (ELAM).

The seven hibakushas will know details of the results of the center, founded by the leader of the Cuban Revolution, Fidel Castro, on November 15, 1999, and that in its 12 graduations has given certificates to almost 28,000 physicians from 135 countries.
At present, that educational program has over 3,800 students from 89 nations.
Some 1,000 passengers will arrive in this capital on Wednesday on board of the Peace Boat and organized in 15 groups will visit centers of social, cultural, historic, educational and health interest and will meet with representatives of the Cuban Institute for Friendship with the Peoples.
Peace Boat is an International NGO based in Japan, which since 1983 promotes peace and sustainability by way of the organization of international trips for peace, using a passenger boat as means of transport.
This NGP with Special Consultative Status at the Economic and Social Council of the United Nations participates actively in cultural exchanges and activities of education and raising of public awareness in issues such as disarmament, the prevention of conflicts and sustainable development.
