Cuba develops video games to raise awareness on water preservation

HAVANA, Cuba, Oct 17 (acn) Water use and the call to save it is the central theme of video games developed by participants in the third edition of the Pachamama Game Jam, competition opened last Friday at the University of Computing Sciences (UCI by its Spanish acronym).

All Cuban provinces are represented in this contest, involving 30 teams looking for more innovative prototypes that promote ecological awareness in the country.
Precisely in response to the imbalance in the distribution and management of water, moments in which more than half of the precious liquid is lost, this strategic resource occupies the attention of the videogames creators summoned to innovate and create their own concepts.
Luis Guillermo Silva, deputy director of UCI Vertex center and one of the coordinators of Pachamama Game Jam, told ACN that the event is being an essential link to associate ecology, art and science in unison.
The teams began to innovate and create their own concepts last Friday, the expert said, stressing that the tools used so far have been Unity, Photoshop, Gimp and Phaser.
