Chinese Premier on official visit to Cuba

HAVANA, Cuba, Sep 24 (acn) China´s Prime Minister Li Keqiang begins an official visit to Cuba on Saturday aimed at further boosting bilateral cooperation relations between the two countries.

During his two-day stay in Cuba, Li Keqiang will hold official talks with President Raul Castro and he will also carry out other activities on his agenda.

This is the first visit to Cuba by a Chinese prime minister since the two countries established diplomatic relations on September 28, 1960, and it is considered a good example of South-South cooperation.

Economic and commercial cooperation is on the forefront of Cuba-China bilateral relations. China is the island´s second major commercial partner while Cuba is China´s first commercial partner in the Caribbean area.

Statistics released by the Chinese embassy in Havana affirm that bilateral trade between Beijing and Havana continues to grow after such exchanged was valued at some 1.6 billion dollars in 2015.

During Li Keqiang ´s visit, both sides will sign a package of cooperation accords in the areas of technology, renewable energy, environmental protection, the industry and other sectors.
